THE BODY LANGUAGE analyzed the hidden parts of our identities through an immersive experience inside the fascinating universe of the complex labyrinths of our consciousness. The human body, seen as a dynamic and evolving system, connected us with other bodies and spaces, allowing us to perceive the surrounding reality. It acted as a powerful communication system with its own unique language and infinite ways of expression.

We invited all the artists to immerse themselves in a multisensory exploration and to share their personal artistic research through various forms of media. From painting to sculptures and installations, and from photography to video art and live performances, each artist delved into the depths of their creative processes. They presented their interpretations of how the body communicates, exploring its interactions, emotions, and the myriad of ways it connects with the world around it. Through their diverse works, the exhibition offered a rich tapestry of insights into the profound and intricate language of the human body.

Among the participating artists, Laura Apolonio‘s work stood out with its unique use of fabric collage: her pieces aimed to represent the primal strength of the human body, drawing inspiration from her childhood in Africa. Apolonio’s multidisciplinary approach, sought to capture the vital and original energy of primitive art. Her vibrant works invited viewers to experience the raw, expressive energy reminiscent of early tribal art forms, aligning perfectly with the theme of The Body Language by exploring the creative potential of the body.

Camille Geraldes’ artistic journey, rooted in personal experiences, showcased her exploration of deep emotions through various mediums. Utilizing ink, acrylic paint, markers, and pastel, and even experimenting with spices as pigments, Geraldes’ work brought forth a vivid portrayal of emotions that words often fail to capture. Her transition from a hidden artist to one fully expressive in her art highlighted the transformative power of the audience’s perspective, making her contributions a significant part of the immersive experience within the exhibition.

Against the stunning backdrop of Rome, the artists found endless inspiration for their work: inspired by the dramatic postures of Caravaggio, Michelangelo, and Leonardo, and the abstract lines of Picasso and Miró, the work of Sabrina Tafuro explored human struggles and emotions through bodily communication. Her pieces, characterized by vibrant colors and stylistic design from the Swedish environment, viewed art as a language where the movements of figures acted as words. This thematic approach resonated deeply with the exhibition’s exploration of the body’s expressive potential.

Inspired by personal loss and familial struggles with cancer, Leo Jon Cattelan & Elena Salvaterra’s humanitarian photography project brought a deeply personal and poignant element to the exhibition: through this project, they aimed to transmute suffering into something material and visible, helping both the artist and the models to process their experiences. Their work, which involved movement, play, and the process of dressing and undressing, served as a powerful exploration of self-esteem and emotional expression, turning the exhibition space into a site of healing and empowerment.
