Voya
Vojislav Anicic, better known as Voya, is an interdisciplinary artist and composer based in Basel, Switzerland. His creative practice spans a diverse range of mediums, including music, painting, mixed media, sculpture, and photography. Born in 1976 in Croatia and nurtured by the Swiss landscape, his artistic journey is a captivating fusion of cultures and disciplines. A graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied orchestration, Voya is also a self-taught visual artist.

His visual art explores the human form and condition through a captivating blend of figurative and abstract styles. Inspired by masters such as Kandinsky, Richter, Monet and Sargent, as well as contemporary artists like Jenny Saville, Jeff Koons, and Ai Weiwei, Voya’s work traverses a spectrum from meticulously realistic portraits to boldly abstract compositions. A figurative artist at his core, his deep fascination with the human form and condition is a constant thread throughout his work.

Voya’s art stands out for its exploration of contrasts in form, color, and texture. Through this unique combination, he captures the essence of the human experience, offering expressive portraits that pulsate with life, elegant figures that dance with form, and exciting landscapes that evoke sensory experiences. His works have been featured in virtual group exhibitions and showcased in galleries across the globe, including in Athens, Berlin, Paris, New York, and Venice.

At the heart of Voya’s artistic philosophy lies the belief that art is an experiential journey. His works invite viewers to immerse themselves in a world of sensations, emotions, and interpretations. Whether through the harmonious melodies of his compositions or the vibrant strokes of his paintings, Voya’s artistic vision leaves an enduring and profound impact.

Voya (Vojislav Anicic) is not confined by medium. He explodes onto the scene as an interdisciplinary force, wielding music, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and photography as weapons in his artistic arsenal. A Berklee-trained orchestrator turned self-taught visual provocateur, Voya dissects the human condition with a surgeon’s precision and a poet’s soul.
Forget passive observation. Voya’s art is a visceral encounter. His portraits aren’t just faces; they’re raw emotional landscapes. His figures don’t just stand; they writhe, dance, and scream with life. He smashes the boundaries between figurative and abstract, forging a new visual language where the human form is both celebrated and deconstructed. From the controlled chaos of his squeegee-abstracted portraits to the haunting elegance of his figurative works born from abstract beginnings, Voya’s series are a testament to his relentless exploration. Inspired by the titans – Kandinsky, Richter, Monet, Sargent, Saville, Koons, Weiwei – he forges his own path, a path where contrasts collide and the human experience is laid bare.
His work has echoed through virtual exhibitions in galleries in Athens, Berlin, Paris, New York, and Venice, a testament to his global reach. Based in Basel, Switzerland, Voya crafts not just images but experiences. He believes art is a journey, a sensory immersion. His compositions and canvases pulsate with life, inviting viewers to lose themselves in a world where emotion, form and colours are inextricably intertwined. Voya’s art is a bold statement. It’s a challenge. It’s an invitation to feel, to question, to experience the raw, unfiltered essence of being human.
